Girl Scout gold award
Lindsey Hill (pictured), a St. John’s School graduate, earned her gold award through the Girl Scouts. The honor recognizes girls in grades 9 through 12 who demonstrate leadership through community-service projects that require a minimum of 80 hours to complete. Hill created a curriculum with the help of the teachers at autism center Avondale House. The curriculum was designed to educate children with autism about social behavior and life skills like sharing, introducing themselves when meeting new people, hygiene and expressing feelings. Hill also wrote puppet shows for the students to help them better understand the social behavior and life-skills lessons. She assembled a puppet theater outfitted with curtains and puppets and donated it to Avondale House.
