It changed their life
The UT college students had to write an essay on why they wanted to ride their bike 4,000 miles, be interviewed, train for a year, and do charitable work to raise money for cancer research. Peyton Hammer and 62 others met those qualifications and rode the 4,000-mile bike ride from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska, in 70 days. The three groups, the Sahara, Rookies and Ozark, biked different routes, stopped at hospitals along the route and met up in Canada to enter Alaska together. They raised over $600,000, which proves students can become leaders in creating a cancer-free future. See Texas4000.org.
