Fathers and flashlights
The 12th annual Fathers & Flashlights urban campout on the fields surrounding West University Elementary School was a success, with 515 kids, 247 dads and 247 volunteer moms. The event raised $127,000 for West U parks, plus in-kind donations of more than $11,000. Co-chairs were the Moorhead, Williams and Woody families. Participants pitched tents and enjoyed a live exotic-animal experience, DJs, an airbrush artist, catch-and-release fishing, a T-shirt tie-dye station and a movie. Fathers & Flashlights and the Park Lovers’ Ball, on Feb. 2, 2019, are the largest of the Friends of West University Place Parks Fund fundraising events. See westuparks.org.
