Rick Staff, 64, a founding member of the Old Man Surf Association (OMSA), went to chase that “elusive wave” with his wife Vickie, son Matt Staff and girlfriend Madison Butt in Nosara, Costa Rica. During the 11-day trip a four-wheeling ride was a real scream for Vickie, whose wheels were wet after speeding through hilly terrain and a river. The wheels couldn’t grab onto the rocks on the climbing side, and after gunning her vehicle, it jumped out two feet and nearly threw her over the edge of a cliff. Best to stick to scuba.
