Bellaire Brothers Travel to Wimbledon
Brothers Alex and Andrew Lavine traveled to London this summer to attend the world’s premier tennis tournament: Wimbledon. They returned to Houston last week with a little jet lag, some new tennis skills and a tennis ball signed by the world-famous Serena Williams.
“There were these practice courts, so we just waited for [Serena] to come out,” said Alex. “She signed for a few people and I was lucky enough to get it.” Alex now has the tennis ball safely stored in a cabinet at his home in Bellaire.
Alex, 16, and Andrew, 13, both attend The Emery/Weiner School and have played tennis since they were around four-years-old. They now play competitively in school and through the United States Tennis Association. They traveled to London with their grandparents Susan and Juan Bracho, who is also their coach at the Juan Bracho Tennis Academy.
“It was a trip to get to go see the world champions,” said Alex and Andrew’s mom Rachel Lavine.
Highlights of the four-day trip include witnessing new young talent from the US, Cori Gauff, win her second professional match, as well as getting autographs from players Serena Williams, Kei Nishikori and John Isner.
