Books for Belize
A group of 11 volunteers with Books for Development traveled to Belize, where they established nine libraries for communities in need – three in Punta Gorda and six in Burrell Boom. Started in 2010 out of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, the nonprofit has established and maintains libraries in several East African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Malawi and Zambia. This was the organization’s first trip to Belize, and it was supported by Miles Schubert, a rising senior at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. Miles collected book donations, organized volunteers and raised funds for shipping as part of his Eagle Scout Award project.
