Race for the cure
Ellen Elam, a board member of Komen Houston, and Khambrel Marshall, a member of the KPRC2 Severe Weather Team and host of Houston Newsmakers, are co-chairing the 29th Annual Komen Houston Race for the Cure Oct. 5 at Sam Houston Park. Ellen (pictured, on right) began participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in Dallas after her sister, Cindy, passed away from breast cancer in 2008. She joined the Komen Houston board of directors in 2018. Khambrel (pictured, on left) became involved in Komen more than 10 years ago, starting as event emcee, then board member and now, for the second year in a row, race co-chair. Proceeds from the event support breast health screening, treatment, education and research. Race day has a 5K run, 5K walk, family 1K walk and even Sleep in for the Cure, plus a morning of festivities following the race. See komen-houston.org.
