The Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Book & Arts Festival’s 2019 Community Read event Nov. 4 will feature Julie Orringer’s The Flight Portfolio. Co-chairs (pictured, from left) Stefani Twyford and Lori Farris selected the historical-fiction novel; this marks Stefani and Lori’s third year co-chairing. In The Flight Portfolio, Orringer takes readers to 1940 when Varian Fry traveled to Marseille with a list of artists and writers he hoped to help escape, including Hannah Arendt, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp and Marc Chagall.
