Editor's Note - September 2019
Last month, The Buzz hosted a community screening of Screenagers, a documentary about addiction to digital devices and the impact technology has on health. The film is aimed at teenagers but emphasizes that parents need to set examples for their kids. Seeing the film – and then catching myself immediately checking my phone right after – suggests I am an addict. The film recommends that kids replace some screen time with activities, such as sports or a musical instrument. I, too, need a hobby. My kids have been out of the house for years. What am I waiting for? The neighbors we feature in this month’s issue are engaged in all sorts of fun hobbies – fishing with friends, gardening, sailing the world, fan clubbing with the Astros, biking all over town, racing vintage Porsches. Their stories definitely inspire me to get out more and leave my phone behind. Gardening perhaps? But first I need to Google what to plant … and the Astros score … on my phone. [email protected]
