Setting the stage
Stages theater kicked off its opening-weekend festivities by hosting its annual gala, The Gordy Grand Opening Gala, in its new home, The Gordy campus. Isla and T.R. Reckling, III, served as this year’s chairs along with underwriting chairs and the namesakes of the building, Glenda and Russell Gordy. More than 230 guests viewed the finished space, enjoyed the silent auction led by auction chairs Trish and Rock Morille and gathered for a performance by Broadway stars Alysha Umphress, Joseph C. Wiggan and Tony Yazbeck. The trio performed Don’t Rain on My Parade, All I Need is the Girl and I Wish I Knew. Following dinner, attendees could choose between dancing to DJ Gracie Chavez or a piano bar with Mark Ivy, Ben Miller and Holland Vavra. This year’s event raised more than $750,000 for Stages.
