Art house
Julia Smith

The idea of the Art House was dreamed up by St. John's junior Julia Smith, whose family owns the soon-to-be tear-down.

Julia Smith (pictured), a senior at St. John’s School, created colorful chalk art at home during the pandemic. A love of art runs in the Smith family. But when Julia asked her mom Cristina if she could paint their house, her mom was initially confused – until Julia clarified that she wanted to paint the house they’re soon tearing down. Cristina and dad Creighton said yes. Julia put signs in the yard encouraging neighbors to contribute to painting the soon-to-be-torn-down house – while practicing social distancing. She hoped that families walking by might enjoy seeing and adding to the art. For more, see “Art House” by Julie Beasley
