Odyssey of the Mind team at West University Elementary School

This Odyssey of the Mind team at West University Elementary School placed first in the “balsa limbo” structure problem at the regional competition. All members were first-time participants. The requirement was to use less than 18 grams of balsa wood and super glue to build a structure that can hold as much weight as possible. The structure’s height needed to be at least eight inches, and it had to go under a limbo bar. Their structure held over 500 pounds. Team members, including fifth graders and a fourth grader, were excited to advance to the state competition, which was ultimately canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The world competition will take place virtually for all Odyssey members; these team members aren’t certain yet whether they’ll participate but are proud of their accomplishment at the regional competition.
