Iron Plaid, Duchesne Academy's Upper School robotics team, went from building robots to making personal protective equipment for healthcare professionals. Sisters Anna and Bella Smith (pictured, from left), who are both members of Iron Plaid, used a 3D printer at home to create plastic visors to be used in face shields. Additionally, Lena Shadow printed plastic "ear savers" to protect ears from chafing from face masks. Iron Plaid worked with TXRX Labs, which is coordinating Houston's 3D printing community to create plastic components for PPE. Iron Plaid students, parents and faculty have donated more than 250 PPE components.
