Guests gathered – virtually – to support JDRF Houston’s gala, The Power of Us: From Start to Finish, which raised more than $1.2 million. Drew Dougherty, the host of Texans TV who has type 1 diabetes, emceed the live stream from his home, donning a tuxedo on top and shorts on bottom. Attendees joined the live YouTube event – some dressed in PJs and others in black tie – from their living rooms, beds and even their pools, while donating to Fund A Cure and bidding on auction items. Some even did cannonballs after large donations. Guests, including honorees Peggy and Robert Kruckemeyer, shared inspiring words about their journeys with type 1 diabetes and JDRF. The virtual gala received pre-event encouragement from type 1 diabetic DeAndre Carter of the Houston Texans. The stream also featured video messages from heroes and WWE superstar Lacey Evans.
