Walking together, apart
Easter Seals Greater Houston, a nonprofit that serves veterans, children and adults with disabilities and their families, turned its annual fundraiser, Walk With Me, virtual in light of the pandemic. Typically, thousands of supporters would gather at the Houston Zoo to take part in the Walk With Me event. This year, participants joined in virtually, walking, strolling and rolling the block while sharing photos and videos on social media to raise awareness. Easter Seals Greater Houston supporters raised $776,251 and attracted 3,138 participants. Among them was event ambassador Robert Ryan, with parents Laura and Michael and sister Paige (pictured). Robert is a student at The Caroline School (founded by Elizabeth and Anthony DeLuca), a program of Easter Seals Greater Houston. Co-chairs Richard Holt and Steve Thompson Jr. teamed up with celebrity chair Larry Dierker. Houston Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus also posted videos of his walk.
