Community QB
The Houston Texans’ Toro made a surprise visit to Annette Tarver’s (pictured, in middle) home to deliver her Community Quarterback jersey. Tarver won the grand prize BHP-Texans Community Quarterback Award for her volunteer commitment to Christian Community Service Center (CCSC), a nonprofit that serves Houstonians in need. In pre-pandemic times, Tarver would have been honored at an event, so the Texans called a Covid audible, and Toro made the play. The award, from a partnership between United Way of Greater Houston, the Houston Texans and BHP, recognizes individuals who have shown volunteer leadership. The prize carried a $25,000 donation to CCSC in Tarver’s honor. CCSC executive director Michelle Shonbeck (pictured, on right) was on hand to surprise and congratulate Tarver.
