MusicFest at Kinder HSPVA: A 24-Hour Livestream Event
When I first started attending Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, we had a tradition every fall called Spaghetti Supper. What made this event special was the meal served to event-goers while different rooms held orchestra, piano, vocal, mariachi, or jazz performances. Since moving to the new building downtown, our event name changed to MusicFest, but the event's spirit stayed the same. We are here to gather together to raise money for young artists that grace our school.
Because of the destructive pandemic year events in 2020, MusicFest will be a 24-hour telethon that will start this Friday, Dec. 4. It's free to tune in, but our Music Departments count on many contributions before and during the show. This event is their primary fundraiser for the year, so show your support for the vocal music, band, jazz, mariachi, orchestra, and piano students! Please help us reach our $45,000 fundraising goal that the Vocal and Instrumental Music Departments depend on each year.
I want to highlight two students who will be performing at MusicFest. My first dynamic senior is Yasmeen Hage, who is a vocal student at PVA. She is a Lebanese American who survived the tragic bomb in Beirut, Lebanon this August. Her family is safe and felt fortunate because they cancelled a planned shopping trip in the city that day. With her immediate family back in Houston, our young star is looking forward to graduation. She plans to attend college at Texas A&M fall of 2021. She is performing Take On Me with her music ensemble, Young Performers, at this year's MusicFest.
Nallely Zambrano, another senior, is a musically talented vihuela player in the mariachi band at PVA. She also plays in a professional band with her four sisters and parents called Grupo Vadenagi. Nallely is performing with her band Los Pasajeros during MusicFest playing Cafe Colon and No Me Se Rajar. Following graduation, she plans to attend college with a career in accounting and cosmetology.
With Kinder HSPVA being such a diverse school with students from many different backgrounds, please find it in your heart to donate to such a worthy cause. You're invited to MusicFest 2020, a 24-hour virtual music marathon! It is Friday, Dec. 4, 6 p.m. - Saturday, Dec. 5, 6 p.m. You can expect performances from current Kinder HSPVA vocal and instrumental departments, past alumni appearances with vintage performances from the archives, including special guests.
