Rummel Creek Elementary students earned top honors at the Houston Rodeo art competition. Pictured, from left: Ellie Hartensteiner (first grade) won second place with her entry “I am a Texan,” Kayla Yang (fifth grade) was named finalist with her entry “Ready to Ride,” Collin Barber (fourth grade) won second place with his entry “Deep in the Woods,” and Cameron Koy (fourth grade) was named finalist with his entry “Mockingbird Morning.” Second grader Haien Yoon (not pictured) also had artwork represented in the contest. The finalists will advance to the next round and represent Spring Branch Independent School District to compete for the “best in show” and “gold medal” awards. For the last two years, a student from Rummel Creek has won the gold medal award, and this year’s competitors hope to repeat school history.

Editor’s note: The Buzz congratulates our regular Buzz About Town writer, associate editor Jordan Steinfeld, and her husband Matthew on the recent arrival of baby Sloane. Jordan is taking a short break to spend time with Sloane. In the meantime, Buzz writer Angie Frederickson is handling this column. As usual, please send your high-res photos and community news to [email protected]. Items are published on a space-available basis.
