Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Cancer has made such an impact on our lives personally, from affecting our close family members to those in our community. We are participating in this campaign in honor of our loved ones who have lost their battle, and for those who continue to put up a fight.
We are excited to announce that we are running in the 2021 Students of the Year Campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We are representing our school as we run against other student-led teams across the Houston area to fundraise for blood cancer.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a nationwide organization dedicated to curing blood cancer. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society not only advances and invests funds towards curing cancer through research, but it also personally assists patients and gives guidance and hope to families. Every dollar that we fundraise will go directly towards this cause. Since 2017, LLS has funded 58 of the 63 FDA-approved treatments. The Students of the Year program allows us to help LLS in its endeavor to approve more of these treatments and cure blood cancers.
This campaign gives us the opportunity to support patients as they walk through this difficult stage in life. We want to put an end to this disease. Running for the Students of the Year campaign has pushed us out of our comfort zones and challenged our team-leading skills, but most importantly, this campaign has taught us the importance of learning to love and serve others.
“We love because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19
This verse is an inspiration to our campaign because it encourages us about the love that we want to show others through our life. We hope that this message of love and hope can be conveyed throughout our campaign. To learn more, please visit https://linktr.ee/weareonesoy.
