Mitchell Montalvo

Mitchell Montalvo

University of Houston student Mitchell Montalvo (pictured) has been selected to enter the United States Space Force from the university’s Air Force ROTC program. Lieutenant Montalvo, a graduate of Bellaire High School, was selected from a competitive pool of cadets to serve in the newest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. He is making history at the University of Houston by entering the U.S. Space Force directly from the ROTC program, as officers are usually recruited after serving in the U.S. Air Force. Montalvo had planned to follow in the footsteps of his father, brother, and sister by joining the Air Force, but decided to serve in the Space Force because he wants to make an impact on the new military organization.

Editor’s note: The Buzz congratulates associate editor Jordan Steinfeld and her husband Matthew on the recent arrival of baby Sloane. Jordan is taking a short break to spend time with Sloane. In the meantime, Buzz writer Angie Frederickson is handling this column. As usual, please send your high-res photos and community news to [email protected]. Items are published on a space-available basis.
