Honoring youth of the year

The Salvation Army’s Youth of the Year Scholarship Awards Luncheon recently took place at Haras Hacienda with more than 170 in attendance. Trish Greaser chaired the event, in which youth leaders were recognized for their community service, leadership, academic excellence, and character. Etienne Ndem, alumnus of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club – Northwest, shared his story; he’s currently a freshman at Lone Star College, University Park. First-place winners were Cailey Andel, Devine Obi, and Yanna Mouton. Jorge Vargas emceed the event; $115,250 was awarded in scholarships, and $12,875 was raised for next year’s scholarship program.
