Stamina pays off
Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart seventh grader Olivia Kiefer (pictured) medaled in ninth place in the 2-mile run at a recent cross-country meet. The middle school team participated in the first competition of the new school year, which was hosted by Incarnate Word Academy at the Willow Waterhole Greenway. Duchesne’s middle-school team averaged fourth place, overall, against tough competition from 14 participating schools, including St. Vincent de Paul, Presbyterian School, Annunciation Orthodox School, and St. Thomas’ Episcopal. The 21-member girls’ team practices each day, with a minimum 2-mile run, to prepare for each competitive race. Cross-country season will wrap up with the Houston Junior Preparatory Conference championship that Duchesne will host in mid-October.
