Touchdown for teachers
More than 400 guests came together at the River Oaks Country Club for the ninth annual Touchdown for TEACH gala, which raised $1.2 million for the Houston nonprofit To Educate All Children (TEACH). Former New Orleans Saints quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees was interviewed by HEB president Scott McClelland, event co-chair. Brees reflected on the important roles that education and mentorship have played in his life. Honorees were the Champagne Cowgirls, recognized for their Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Steer Auction. Event co-chairs Carol and Mike Linn and Soraya and Scott McClelland were honored by TEACH co-founder Susan Sarofim for their longstanding dedication. The nonprofit, co-founded by Sarofim and Mary Yenik, provides educators with coaching in classroom management to decrease disciplinary referrals, improve student achievement, and reduce teacher turnover.
