Gold Award
Alexandria Alvarez, a senior at Incarnate Word Academy, has achieved her Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project helped former human-trafficking survivors find careers and maintain a stable income. Alexandria established the RITE (Reach Inspire Thrive Empower) program, working with Salvation Army of Houston thrift stores for business attire and working with local businesses, The Salvation Army, and the City of Houston to educate survivors about careers and provide work opportunities. The topic of human trafficking is important to Alexandria, she says, as her grandfather, who was from Mexico, was sold to a family at the age of 7.
