New centenarian Damon Slator celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends. Granddaughter Che Rickman Crawford, son-in-law Holland Young, daughter Helen Young, Damon, great-granddaughter Sway Crawford, daughter Dorothy Paterson, and son-in-law Malcolm Paterson (pictured, from left) gathered at Damon’s home at the Village of River Oaks to honor the milestone. In recognition of the special day, Damon received a proclamation from the mayor’s office that February 26, 2022 was “Damon Slator 100th Birthday Day.” Several weeks before the birthday, Damon’s daughter Dorothy made a request via a Facebook post for friends to send cards to her father. The goal was for Damon to receive 100 cards for his 100th birthday, and they greatly exceeded the goal. According to Damon, the keys to longevity are keeping a positive attitude and sense of humor, dancing with passion, loving your family, and drinking scotch.
