H.M.S. Pinafore

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston celebrates its 70th anniversary show this summer, H.M.S. Pinafore. This family-friendly show, full of singing and comedy, won first place and first runner up for various performers at an earlier production at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Society Festival. It is mostly run by volunteers, and the lead roles are played by local professional singers. Performances will be held July 23-24 and July 30-July 31 at Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The society’s founders were from the original Kinkaid School on Richmond, and it spread from there to University of Houston, then to Jones Hall, to the Wortham Theater, and now to Zilkha Hall. The society once performed for Margaret Thatcher when she visited Houston, and she gave the show rave reviews. For tickets and more information, visit hgns.org/pinafore.
