Cardboard boat regatta
Bellaire residents Mindy Chen and Karis Lim (pictured, from left) entered their unicorn boat into the first annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at Evergreen Park. A new event at the annual Picnic in the Park organized by Bellaire Parks and Recreation, the regatta featured boats made entirely from cardboard and duct tape. Participants arrived at the park with their creative boats and set them loose on the Evergreen pool in a race to the other side. Awards were given for the fastest boats, most creative design, and the most dramatic sinking. Picnic in the Park is an annual event to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month, and families enjoyed food, games, and music, in addition to the regatta.
