Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) ambassadors Athena Werner (pictured, top), Olivia Stanich (middle left), Caroline Stegent (middle right), and Caroline Massey (bottom) are working to raise money to improve the lives of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Each of the girls was diagnosed with T1D in the last several years and their lives have changed as they face this serious, chronic disease with the help of a glucose-monitoring app on their phones. Their families met and bonded over their shared experiences, and the girls have taken on a leadership role within the foundation to help find a cure. This year’s Houston JDRF One Walk fundraising event will be held on Nov. 5 at the Houston Sports Park on Kirby Dr., and the girls have formed the Candy Crushers team to walk and raise money for JDRF.
