Michael HoffmanLike many, my New Year’s resolution every January is to recommit to exercising regularly. Throughout the year, my dedication tends to fluctuate. But this past year, I ran into an acquaintance who shared that he had been walking daily and felt better overall. I tried it, too. I started walking six miles daily around the neighborhood. I too felt good. Until my knee started giving me pain. Arthritis, my doctor determined. Arthritis?! I said. Isn’t that an old-people problem?! Well, he said…. Turns out I qualify. It was around that same time that we were photographing the inspirational neighbors featured in this issue. These incredibly fit senior citizens – each of whom are a decade or two older than me – stay active through a variety of ways, including boxing, swimming, biking, yoga, and Pilates. I’m currently taking a break from my daily walks due to my knee, but maybe these impressive neighbors are just the motivation I need to try something new. [email protected]
