Wrestling champion
Pershing Middle School student Joshua Guzman (pictured, at left) won the Texas Middle School State Wrestling Championship, where he represented Pershing. He was seeded number 1 out of 23 wrestlers from all over the state, and he proved himself worthy of it. Joshua went 5-0 with four pins and a 7-4 final decisive victory over competitor Alexander Ugalde. Joshua’s work ethic has advanced him; after placing fourth last year he set a goal to win it all this year. He met his goal but he says he knows there is much more work to be done as he prepares for high school competition next year.
