After the devastating earthquakes in Turkey, Ibrahim Firat (pictured with fellow soccer players), co-founder of Nexus Futbol Academy, began collecting supplies to help the victims. When SportSocial, Ibrahim’s Houston soccer community, learned of his efforts, they stepped in to help by hosting a Charity Cup tournament. Four teams of six players competed in a “king of the court” style format, with participants donating much-needed items including blankets, sleeping bags, tents, and diapers. Other members of the community came to watch the tournament and brought their own donations to add to the collection. Ibrahim delivered more than 180 items to the Turkish Consulate to be sent to the victims.
