Bellaire's EMotion: Grooving with the Community
On Saturday, March 25, Bellaire High School’s eMotion Dance Company hosted a dance workshop during the day, with master classes for all grade levels. Afterwards, they held their annual Community Concert, inviting performances from all over the community, encouraging everyone to put on a production together. There were 15 participating organizations, creating a program of over 20 dances.
At 9 in the morning, schools started arriving to Bellaire to get ready for a dance workshop and get the stage set up for the performance later in the evening. The workshop began with eMotion’s subgroups of Hip Hop, Modern, and Breakdance dancers teaching classes of the participating elementary, middle, and high schools respectively. They would start out with simple exercises and then would go on to teach them a dance combination. After each hour, eMotion dancers would then rotate, with Breakdance going to the elementary schoolers, hip hop going to middle schoolers, and modern going to high schoolers. After an hour-long lunch, there would be one more rotation, and then the dancers would start getting ready for the Community Concert.
The concert itself started at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:15. The performance was full of unique dances, ranging over a wide set of styles including contemporary, modern, jazz, lyrical, color guard, and traditional oriental dance.
While eMotion Dance Company didn’t perform at the concert, their next show is their movie-themed spring show, which will take place at Bellaire High School Saturday, April 14, in the auditorium.
We would like to give a special thanks to everyone that came out to support our community concert. It was a pleasure to showcase dances from across Houston!
Also a huge thank you to all performers for coming out with us and making this show possible.
