Raising awareness of lupus
Supporters of the Lupus Foundation of America-Texas Gulf Coast Chapter gathered for a crawfish boil and raised more than $20,000 for the Lupus Foundation. Board members Lynn and Rick Blandford, Marc Baca, Jim McAlister, Brock Hudson, and foundation chapter chief executive officer Anne Marie Blacketer (pictured, from left) organized the festive event that included music from Keyun & the Zydeco Masters. The crawfish boil honored Mary Dirks Hudson, Brock Hudson’s mother and Jim McAlister’s best friend, who died from lupus in her late 40s. Lupus is a complex and often misunderstood autoimmune disease. Funds raised at the event will help increase awareness of symptoms and treatment options, as well as provide support to those diagnosed with the disease.
