On a scorching Saturday in September, the Awty International School's cross-country team showcased their incredible talent and determination at the John Cooper Dragon XC Invitational Meet. Under the relentless Texan sun, the Rams defied the heat to claim victory in both the Varsity boys' and girls' divisions, setting records and making a resounding statement as they embarked on their new season.

In an awe-inspiring display of athleticism, Varsity boys runner, Edgar Thielens, emerged as the standout star of the day. Thielens broke the Awty 2-mile record with a jaw-dropping time of 9 minutes and 58 seconds, leaving spectators in sheer amazement. His remarkable feat not only secured his place in the annals of Awty history but also earned him a well-deserved 1st place in the Varsity Boys Division 1 race at the meet.

Thielens' accomplishment, however, was not the only highlight of the day. The varsity girls' team, led by the exceptional performances of sophomore Farrah Fahl, and junior Sasha Johnson, dominated the competition. Farrah Fahl claimed 1st place in the girls' division, while Sasha Johnson secured a remarkable 2nd place. Their outstanding efforts contributed to the girls' team securing the top position overall, cementing Awty's dominance on the Cooper Dragon course.

Cross-Country Coach, Benjamin Matthews, the driving force behind the Awty XC team, could not have been prouder of his athletes' performances. His dedication to nurturing their talents and instilling a sense of discipline and teamwork clearly paid off as his proteges soared to new heights. In addition, the support from Awty parents and athletics staff played an integral role in the team's success. Their unwavering encouragement and commitment to the athletes were palpable throughout the meet, spurring the Rams to push their limits and achieve greatness.

This victory at the Cooper Dragon XC Invitational Meet serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work that the Awty XC team has put into their training. With records shattered and first-place finishes proudly displayed, the Rams have set a high bar for themselves this season. This win is just a taste of the remarkable feats that await, and as the season unfolds, the excitement and anticipation among Awty supporters continue to grow. Go Rams!
