This week I am writing about a number of miscellaneous bookish things that I want to share with you.

Feature writing: I have been writing some feature pieces for The Buzz. In August, I wrote about captivating reads for those who want to get into reading (or even back into reading) and do not know where to start. Taking the time to sit down and read a book can seem daunting to people who don’t regularly do so. With so many titles publishing weekly, even selecting a book can feel overwhelming. For those who are interested in immersing themselves in a great story but are not sure where to start, I highlighted 10 titles that will appeal to infrequent or reluctant readers. These books will help you get hooked on reading – even if you don’t think you are a reader. In September, I surveyed local teens to find out their favorite books.

Buzz book reviewer Cindy Burnett was a guest on Houston Life this week. She recommended five thrilling fall reads. Pictured: Cindy (middle) with Derrick Shore (left) and cohost Tessa Barrera (right). Watch the segment here.

More book recommending: Early this week I guested on Houston Life again to recommend five thrilling fall reads. Fall is always heavily focused on mysteries and thrillers in the publishing industry, and three of the five books I selected were in that genre. Derrick Shore has a new permanent cohost, Tessa Barrera, and it was fun to chat books with them. This was my fifth or sixth appearance, and I feel more comfortable each time.

Conversations from a Page literary salon

The Conversations from a Page literary salon that Cindy Burnett hosts with cofounder Krista Hensel recently celebrated five years.

Gathering together: The Conversations from a Page literary salon that I host with my cofounder Krista Hensel just celebrated our fifth year! We had a fabulous turnout for our 30th author salon. Time flies! (Andria Frankfort wrote about how it all came together in this Aug. 2019 Buzz feature.)

Cindy Burnett, Christina Coward,

Cindy Burnett attended the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association’s FallCon in Denver with Christina Coward, who works at Blue Willow Bookshop.

Book conference: Last week, I attended the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association’s FallCon in Denver with my friend Christina Coward who works at Blue Willow Bookshop. We had a ball learning about upcoming book titles and meeting with booksellers and publishers. Book people are the very best.
