Bearkats Volleyball Success at Post Oak
Fall semester started with excitement this school year! The Post Oak volleyball team had a groundbreaking season. With Coach David Peters and Assistant Coach Dominique Anderson-Rivera, the Bearkats went undefeated in every game they played during the regular season and qualified for the regional playoffs. The team surprised the entire school with their winning streak.
Turnout to their games increased throughout the season, and enthusiasm for volleyball at Post Oak grew. The second regional game was intense, with the other team being able to easily dig out their hits and read their serves. They lost the first set, but managed to pull through in the second set. Although the game was a team effort, Talulah May won the final set almost entirely by herself with her accurately placed and strong serves, advancing the team to finals.
Even though the location of the game was far, many teachers, students, and families still managed to cheer the team on at their last game. Two teachers, Dr. Jan Lammel and Ms. Tamara Al karkhi, helped students get there by arranging plans to drive one of the school vehicles. The team was grateful for the enthusiastic support. They gathered in the gym where their last game would take place. The team shared reassuring words, huddled with their coaches who provided last-minute reminders, and cheered them on.
Before they knew it, the game began. Although their opponent was skilled and determined, the Bearkats won the first set. However, they fell behind in the second set and were tied 1-1 going into the third. The team was unable to win their final game.
Despite their disappointment, they felt proud. They were part of the first team to make it to the regional finals and had become a part of school history. The team united the school and made the community eager in a way no sport has done before at Post Oak.
Talulah May, a senior, said, “After playing for the Post Oak volleyball team for six years [including middle school], I’ve never had a team as passionate and committed as we did this year. Watching everyone grow in skill and as a team was a great way to end my Post Oak career.”
As off-season begins at the school and club season begins, the team members are determined to improve and win the finals next year.
