Stephen Long and Grace Newick (pictured) tied the knot at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, which was followed by a reception at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio, a national park and former army base with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The bride, daughter of Lee and Glenn Newick, and the groom, son of Annette and Kevin Long, met in 2014 while attending the University of Virginia. The couple lives in San Francisco, but Grace’s family brought a special touch from home for the ceremony: a needlepoint-stitched wedding kneeler from the Newick family’s church, West University United Methodist Church. The kneeler, made by stitchers Patrice Brewer and Jeanne Maher, was part of a project during the church’s 2007 renovation and was intended to travel when church members marry at a different location. The handmade wedding kneeler is stitched with two joined gold rings with a cross in between.
