How to Help Houston After Hurricane Beryl
Hurricane Beryl’s impact on Houston was far more than anyone anticipated. Currently, there are still 1.7 million people without power. Thankfully, Houstonians are coming together to support each other, like we always do. Here is a list of organizations seeking donations and volunteers to help with relief efforts.

Hermann Park sustained quite a bit of damage during the hurricane and is looking for volunteers to help clean up the park. Volunteer shifts are open this Saturday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. (meet at the pedal boat kiosk) and Sunday, 8 a.m.-11 a.m. (Wortham Pavilion). Volunteers will rake and clear debris along paths and near the Park Commons. Houston Food Bank is actively working to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricane Beryl. As of Thursday, July 11, the Food Bank has delivered 1,076,768 lbs. of disaster supplies to their partner distribution organizations, and more deliveries for assistance are in progress. These figures are in addition to their normal distribution. Volunteers are needed to help sort food and pack boxes for distribution to our network of partners, including the City of Houston and Harris County. Nonprofit Bread of Life has been working to distribute supplies to those in need after Beryl. The organization is seeking donations over the next two weeks to restock their pantry for the next potential disaster and for their bi-weekly distributions. They’re also accepting Back-to-School supplies for those families in need. Houston nonprofit Bread of Life has been supplying water, batteries, food, and more to Houstonians who need help following Hurricane Beryl. The nonprofit is asking for donations to help keep their pantry stocked for the next natural disaster and for their bi-weekly drives. They are in need of food and school supplies. Donations can be brought to Bread of Life, Inc., 2019 Crawford St., Houston, TX 77002. Find out how to volunteer here.
Houston PetSet, dedicated to ending animal homelessness, is seeking donations for partners impacted by Hurricane Beryl. They are asking for donations of fans & extension cords, pet food, fencing repairs for kennels, kitty litter, and funds for contractors to repair house damages. Or you can make an in-kind donation. Email [email protected] and the organization will connect your gift with groups in need.
The Houston Area Women’s Center, which provides resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, is asking for donations to help address damage to the Center and increased demand for resources following Hurricane Beryl. If you are able, you can donate here.
The chaos of Hurricane Beryl has resulted in many displaced or lost pets as well as an increased number of animals in need. HPA!’s facilities have sustained damage, including flooding, and they are asking for donations to help repair expensive medical equipment. They are also asking for volunteers to help care for and transport animals, as well as people to help foster displaced animals and give them a safe home. Find out more about how you can help here.
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center
The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is asking for donors to help with the increased demand for blood following the destruction of Hurricane Beryl. As a thank you, donors will receive $20 in digital rewards. Several of the organization’s locations have power restored; sign up to enjoy air conditioning and save lives. The Red Cross is asking for donations to help victims of the storm. To help specifically with the relief efforts for Hurricane Beryl, please write “Hurricane Beryl” in the memo line of your donation form.
The Salvation Army is requesting donations to help with relief efforts. Visit their website to learn how to volunteer or give.
Southern Smoke is a foundation that provides relief and assistance to food workers. They are asking for donations to help food workers pay for essentials post-storm.
Christian Community Service Center
Christian Community Service Center’s Emergency Services programs are serving those impacted by Hurricane Beryl and other crises by providing food and rent and utility bill assistance. Want to help? Donations of shelf-stable food are CCSC's #1 need, financial donations also help. Visit their website for information on how to donate groceries or run a food drive.
Starting Monday, July 15, individuals and groups can volunteer for the following projects in Buffalo Bayou Park:
- Houston Police Officer Memorial cleanup
- Horticultural restoration at the Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area, the Jane Gregory Garden, the Eleanor Tinsley Garden, and Lost Lake
- Conservation work within native prairies and wildflower meadows
- Park-wide debris removal, including collecting additional tree limbs, staking trees that have been blown over, and continued trail cleanup
Mid-size and larger group events will take place Wednesday through Friday mornings from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Individual volunteer opportunities will also occur during this time range but with more flexibility.
