Boy Scout Troop 222, based at Bellaire United Methodist Church, recently recognized seven new Eagle Scouts at two separate Eagle Courts of Honor. During the second Court of Honor, Ethan He, Jack Draper, Marshall Smith, and Shea Standish (pictured, from left) received their awards. Ethan, a junior at Bellaire High School (BHS), completed his Eagle Scout project for Kolter Elementary School. His project involved creating mobile vertical pallet planters from upcycled pallets to serve as shade and pollinator support. Jack’s project focused on providing needed items for Gigi’s Playhouse, an organization that supports the Down syndrome community. The Episcopal High School junior organized a supply drive for sensory items at the playhouse. BHS junior Marshall worked with Nature Discovery Center to build 10 large bat houses to provide bats a safe place to live and breed while they eat insects, including mosquitos, reducing the need for pesticides. Shea, a sophomore at Strake Jesuit, completed his project for Bellaire Little League, restoring and updating the Tiras baseball field with plants and benches. Fellow Eagle Scouts Joe Beasley, Nick Varner, and Adi Upadhyaya (not pictured) were recognized at an earlier Court of Honor.
