A campout in the neighborhood

Kelly Hill, Deanna McQuade, and Angela Androphy (pictured, from left) chaired the 19th annual Fathers & Flashlights event hosted by Friends of West University Parks. The annual family campout was held on the fields surrounding West University Elementary School and welcomed 500 children, 256 camping parents, and 261 volunteer parents. Kids and their fathers enjoyed endless entertainment including tie dying, face painting, exotic animals, a rock wall, the always-popular Kid Fish, inflatables, snow cones, dancing with DJ Kara, and a show with magician Bud Kula. Dinner featured food from The Pit Room, La Fresca Pizza, Little Matt’s, and Chick-fil-A with dessert from Tiny’s Milk & Cookies. After watching Lilo & Stitch on the big screen and falling asleep under the stars, families woke up hungry and ready for breakfast from Starbucks, Hungry’s, Donut NV, Three Brothers Bakery, and Skeeter’s. The successful event raised $200,000 for West U neighborhood parks.
