The Yellow School at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church book fair

Each spring, The Yellow School at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church hosts a book fair. They kicked it off this year with a family night, which included games, temporary tattoos, an art show of the children’s work and a much-anticipated train ride. In addition, families enjoyed a hot-dog supper, prepared by the kitchen staff at MDPC and served by volunteers. Sayler Robbins, chair, and Amanda Ollison, co-chair, created a successful event with books provided by Southwest Books. This year’s theme was All Aboard for Reading. The children made “train banks” and were urged to do tasks at home to earn money for their banks. A total of $803.18 was raised, and with this money, and a discount from Southwest Books, the school was able to purchase an assortment of books to donate to Small Steps Nurturing Center, which serves economically at-risk children in the Fifth Ward.
