Yorkshire Academy Student Wins Bookmark Design Competition
Sophia Walker, a fifth grader at Yorkshire Academy, won Blue Willow Bookshop’s Bookmark Design Contest. Her bookmark design included the text “Get Lost in a Good Book” at the top with an airplane because, as she said, “When I read a book, it takes me different places.”
Her design was chosen from more than 400 entries total. All fourth and fifth grade Yorkshire students entered the contest as part of a class project directed by art teacher Jacqui Stanley. She was awarded with a Blue Willow gift card and her bookmark will be available all year at Blue Willow.
Sophia said her favorite style of art is realism, and her favorite book is The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer. She’s also won several top ribbons at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Contest; last year, she won the Gold Medal and this year she’s a Best in Show Finalist.
Congratulations, Sophia! We hope your art – and your love of reading – continues to take you great places!
