An Almost Farewell to the Senior Class
Even though the skeptical Houston weather caused us to cancel the annual juniors versus seniors Power-Puff game, our week nor St. Agnes spirit was going to be tarnished. So we decided to finish our week off with our spring pep rally. Though it is the last of the year, we still made fun out of the bittersweet occasion. As girls filed in, grade by grade music was blasting making the gym floor vibrate. The excitement was already in the air.
This pep rally was filled with high energy performances from teams such as track, water polo, lacrosse, softball, golf and of course the never disappointing Tiger Girls. Each sports performance had different themes, like the Star Wars themed lacrosse performance where they turned their sticks into lightsabers.
Overall, all the teams kept the crowd made up of parents, faculty and students entertained. Though the softball team brought a couple special guests, the Strake Jesuit baseball team to perform with them. They were more than entertaining, some could say that seeing the Jesuit boys in girls’ shorts and cowboy boots were the highlight of the pep rally. Others say it was watching Cristen Harrison lead the varsity track team in their performance to Beyoncé songs and some of the newest rap songs. And some would even say their highlight of the pep rally was watching the Tiger Girls give us a preview of their closing act that can be seen in their upcoming Spring Show, which opens in May.
As a student body, we sang the school song, and holding our Veritas ‘V’s’ high in the air, but after that everyone else was to be seated once again. Anyone who goes to or graduated from St. Agnes knows that it is an academy full of Veritas Traditions. It was at this pep rally where the senior class not only sang our school song for one of the last times, but they also practiced another tradition. This tradition was the singing of the Senior Song.
Every year it is sung by the graduating class at the end of the Spring Pep Rally, and this year was no different. Singing the song is a privilege that only seniors know, and a privilege the lowerclassmen can look forward to. It was quite evident that standing in front of the entire student body and signing their hearts out was one of the highlights of their senior year. Girls were jumping up and down, running from side to side, and screaming from the top of their lungs with joy and pride. They put in a lot of hard work to get to that day, and it was well deserved. Next stop for the Class of 2016 is graduation!
