Gardening Preservation Sparks an Interest Among Memorial Mustangs

Memorial Mustang Outreach Bunch (commonly referred to as MMOB) visited the Alief SPARK Park and Nature Center to plant trees and preserve their gardens. MMOB is an 850-member student volunteer organization at Memorial High School that gives students the opportunity to serve the community in many different ways – from tutoring middle school students to refurbishing old bikes for the needy to helping the Houston Food Bank.  

The Alief SPARK Park and Nature Center is a collaborative partnership with Alief ISD, the Alief Super Neighborhood, LISC, the University of Houston – School of Architecture, the Tatanka Boy Scouts, Trees for Houston and Wells Fargo.  On a beautiful fall day, more than 30 MHS students woke up bright and early on a Saturday morning to plant flowers, remove old plants, put down mulch and clean up the garden. 

MMOB has many volunteer events to choose from, and some even happen simultaneously.  For example, on the same day that some Mustangs were gardening in Alief, 80 others were cleaning up Surfside Beach. No matter what the specific activity is, MMOB events are a fun way to work as a team while helping the community.
