Lucette and Richard Rieger took their own challenge to see if they could visit the wild west Texas without a car. They left their house with carry-on suitcases and walked to a nearby bus stop on Richmond that took them to light rail and then a five-block walk to board the Amtrak train. After their overnight trip to Alpine, they had to rent a car to see Fort Davis, the McDonald Observatory, Marathon, Marfa and the historic Hotel Paisano, where the movie Giant was filmed. The Rieger trip was rather giant too.
