Once a month on a designated Friday, Sandalwood residents bring an appetizer and drinks to the third lake or a neighborhood home. Amy McWhorter, president of the Sandalwood Garden Club that organizes the events, congratulated Ana Lips, Laura Mendoza, Yvette McMahan and Kelly Hicks for organizing a huge turnout despite homecoming and an Astros home game to honor Flamingo Friday founders Emily and Tom Ryan, Sandalwood residents for 26 years. When Emily was president of the Garden Club in 2002, she introduced Flamingo Friday, now a 15-year tradition. Emily and Tom are moving to the Buckingham, where they will surely start new traditions.
