Lana and Craig Armstrong

TAKE A HIKE At 14,000 feet high in Peru, Lana and Craig Armstrong say their next trip will be easier.

Lana and Craig Armstrong crossed off Peru’s Machu Picchu and the Inca trail from their To Do list. After they acclimated to the altitude in the Sacred Valley at Belmond Rio Sagrado, their real adventure began. With their tour guide, chef, sous chef and five porters, they hiked four hard days and slept three nights in a tent, on an air mattress. They were treated to mouthwatering culinary experiences, but after hiking up to 14,000 feet to see views of the Urubamba River and mountain ranges with Inca archaeological complexes, all they wanted was a shower before they boarded a train to Cusco. Their guide found a local hotel that allowed them to use the bathroom but not sit on the bed!
