Trash to treasure

Houston artist Carol Simon found inspiration for her latest project in an unusual place – the recycling bin. She transformed plastic bottles into beautiful flowers. Her goal was to beautify a spot in the community, so she talked with the First Ward of Houston Civic Council. They loved the idea of a public street art fence created from used water and soda bottles. The site will be the chainlink fence on Houston Avenue at Edwards. Carol says she needs donations of clean plastic bottles. She is hosting bi-monthly events at her studio in the Silos (1502 Sawyer) and invites others to join the process, assembly line-style, to pull off labels, remove the tops and help cut the bottles into flowers.
