The Pin Oak Middle School Junior Classical League (JCL) students (pictured) earned first place at Rice University’s Owl Certamen. JCL is a student organization that studies Latin and Roman culture, and this year’s Certamen event was the first competition for the Pin Oak group. Students prepared and competed in the quiz bowl-type event where they progressed through multiple rounds of questions surrounding Classical language, literature, and culture. The middle-school students, under the direction of Pin Oak Latin teacher Robert Giasson, competed against high school teams and private schools, and won top honors.
