Double win for horse and rider
Jamie Hassell, a freshman at Carnegie Vanguard High School, took home two year-end championships at the Greater Houston Hunter Jumper Association awards banquet held at the Sam Houston Race Park. During a year of showing at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy and Pine Hill farm in Bellville, Jamie earned enough points to finish first in 2014 for both Limit Equitation and Limit Hunter on her chestnut mare, Sweater Weather. In the equitation ring, riders are judged on their form, both “on the flat” and also over fences. In the hunter ring, the horses are the ones who are judged – although the riders must make sure the horses jump from the proper spot, with correct pace and form. See ghhja.org to learn more about the GHHJA and find trainers who show on this competitive regional circuit.
